Dawn patrol in Kihei not so safe today: According to a Maui County press release…
KIHEI, Maui – Ocean use from the south end of Kamaole 1 Beach Park to Waiohuli Road in Kihei, South Maui, will be closed to beachgoers until sunset today in response to a shark attack that occurred shortly after 6:00 a.m. this morning. County Ocean Safety Officers and State DLNR personnel will continue to patrol and monitor the shoreline and near shore waters throughout today. An assessment of the safety of the area will be made Tuesday morning.
Earlier this morning a 54-year-old male surfing in an area at Kalama Beach Park known locally as “Kalama Bowls” was bitten in the upper right thigh and the lower part of his right ankle by a shark. He was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center. That shark is believed to have been a possible sand shark 6-8 feet in size and reportedly had bitten the man’s surfboard as well. No other information is available.

Is the Bowls actually Charley Youngs Cove? Anyway I dunna but the water behind Kalama Park is not a place where I would hang out. I managed to survive the years of paddling through there on my surfboard but I was carefull to paddle lightly… haha Kids. But Kids will be kids and grownups well, They are what they are.
