We understand that this week’s Eh Brah! has caused quite a stir. As with every Eh Brah! we don’t necessarily condone or agree with the writer’s words, so we never feel the need to defend them. But the illustrations are ours, and so if their meaning is misconstrued we feel obligated to explain.

This week’s illustration was intended as a jab against the Eh Brah! writer, who was illustrated as the “Guitar Dork.” There was text on the drawing further explaining this which we chose to remove for purely aesthetic reasons — we felt it would be hard to read in print and thought the meaning of the drawing was still apparent.

Here is the original drawing with the text. We regret any confusion.

Maui Time has stated that they do not support the views of the writer. (Eh Brah) However, Maui time supports freedom of speech, this right creates dialogue, and dialogue is good. People, do not be hypocrites! I have read some horrible slashes aimed at people of faith, religion, and politics you were not boycotting Maui Time during that. I disagree with the “slashers” of musicians and I too would have felt hurt if it referred to me. But I would never impose on a Maui Time to not print it. C’mon , what was meant for evil, has turned out positive ! Maui is talking about what is passionate to Maui, sharing Aloha through Music!

Hmmm…. interesting dialogue, maybe “aesthetic” made less sense, but hoping this will come to a peaceful “dove”tail ending, or maybe a beginning? Who knows?

Hang in there for the next episode, or not!

Life on Maui, it gets even more interesting by the moment huh? ;-)

Thats all well and good you didn’t agree with the writer. You ultimately made the decision to print
the comments which are nothing but a mean spirited and classless attack on someone who only
wants to play music and make people happy with it.Limbaughesque would be a proper decsription.Congrats though, your publication has made the jump from toliet reading material
    to simply toliet material.

This person has a point! Who could’ve anticipated the tremendous outpouring of empathy, appreciation, love and support that has poured out (check her Facebook page!) for Gail, one of Maui’s true treasures, of whom I’d heard great things on the Mainland before I ever even visited here, and who fully lived up to the hype. Gail- maybe this is your cue to fly a little less “under the Radar!”

You know folks….to post this kind of criticism to one of Maui’s most charitable. kind and talented artists by some jealous “wanna be” is just in plain bad taste. Actually, it is worse than that. THIS WAS THE BODY, MIND, SPIRIT issue. Where is the congruence and integrity in posting slanderous comments especially while putting on the (false?) front of caring about the body, mind and spirit? I have to wonder Maui Times…..are you just USING YOUR READERS and really have no heart, integrity or connection to spirit at all? I no longer care to read a paper that has so little awareness or conscience…

I have found out through the coconut wireless who wrote the letter. I will stop by one of his “gigs” soon to request Layla and Freebird. He’s not a musician. Moving on knowing I had tons of sweet support from the community. Thanks to everyone who posted and reminded me of what is important in life. Peace, Gail

Although the drawing does gain credibility for this issue, it is still highly offensive to print something so negative and rude about someone whom everyone knows of and is easily identifiable. It would have been okay if the guitarist in question was not specified because everyone is entitled to their opinion but the hand-painted (beautiful!) guitar, which was given to her by a dear friend, is unmistakable. I cannot believe this was the ONLY Eh! Brah proposed to be printed this week- bad choice.
