This year’s beneficiary of the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Friends Project and Award is Lanakila Club, Inc., a private, nonprofit organization that services adults living with mental illnesses. As recipients of this award, Lanakila Club will be granted $10,000 to further their organizational mission and will also benefit from a volunteer-run service project coordinated by more than 25 members of the Rotary Club of Kahului and other rotary clubs on Maui.

As a collaborative community service activity, the project plans a Market Makeover that will transform a section of the Lanakila Clubhouse into a “market” where produce and handmade goods created by members will be sold. The project will also focus on renovating the cafe and providing training and employment opportunities to clubhouse members.

The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Friends Award will be presented during a special luncheon at the Maui Tropical Plantation on July 29.
