Isn’t that exciting? Actually, it is: for the first time, the Kula Community Association and the Makawao Community Association will meet together to discuss the drafting, approval and implementation of the proposed Maui Island Plan. The point of the meeting is to explain to residents how, exactly, the controversial and ever-evolving Maui Island Plan will affect gentle Upcountry, to say nothing of the rest of the island. On hand will be just about every big name in the Maui planning world: Planning Director Will Spence, County Councilmembers Gladys Baisa and Mike White, General Plan Advisory Commission co-chair Dick Mayer, former Planning Director Mike Foley and Public Works Director David Goode. Also please note that the County will announce it’s plans to close down a portion of Baldwin Avenue during the next 3rd Friday Party in Makawao next month during this meeting. The road closure is being proposed to increase safety in the area. Unlike road closures during Makawao parades however Makawao Avenue will remain open.
